BENEFITING: SOCCER WITHOUT BORDERS
Hi everyone! This summer I am traveling to Nicaragua for just over a week to work with the children in the community of Granada. I am very excited to be participating in this program, and I will be traveling with a group of about 18 other girls from across the U.S. Our goal is to engage girls through the sport of soccer, and use it as a bridge to open new doors and allow them access to larger opportunities within the community and country of Nicaragua. Girls in Nicaragua face many barriers in the sporting world because they have different expectations from their family than we do here in the U.S. When they are not in school, females are expected to stay at home and learn to cook, clean, and care for their siblings. Fùtbol Sin Fronteras (Soccer Without Borders) provides a safe and supportive space for girls to play through those barriers as well as educational support, opportunities for civil engagement, and emphasis on team building and collaboration across cultures. Through participation in the program they also are able to receive school supplies, clothes, shoes, toiletries, and soccer equipment. Empowering these girls through soccer, the development of key skills, and connecting them to tangible education and career opportunities can help break the cycle and reset the precedent for what is expected of girls in Nicaragua, and what they expect of themselves.
Please consider donating, any amount will be a huge help. Also, any donations of new or gently used soccer equipment (cleats, indoor soccer shoes, balls sizes 4 and 5, etc.), school supplies, clothes (shirts/jerseys/athletic tops, spandex shorts), hair ties (unused), and all shorts and t-shirts that are suited for young and teenage girls would be awesome!
All material donations go straight to the girls, and money goes directly into sustaining the program and fulfilling other necessary needs that the girls have. All contributions will be greatly appreciated!
