THE STORY:
SOCCER WITHOUT BORDERS wrote -
On November 6, 2017, five members of the SWB community will come together as the inaugural SWB Marathon Team, running in support of our program in Boston.
Launched in 2012, SWB Boston provides free, year-round, after-school programming to 300 newcomer youth in the immigrant community of East Boston. In a team-based environment, youth participate in a combination of our five activities (soccer, academic support, cultural exchange, team building and civic engagement).
In response to a growing community need, SWB Boston will be launching our first-ever high school program in September 2016. This program will give continuity to youth as they graduate from our middle school program, allowing them to stay connected networks of caring peers and mentors as they navigate high school. With this launch we will also deepen our academic services and create employment opportunities for high school participants to better prepare them for success in high school, college, and beyond.
The 2016 TCS NYC Marathon Team will be supporting the launch of SWB Boston’s high school program in 2016.
