I am STILL not a runner. With a lot of effort, a good amount of training, and loads of encouragement, I finished the 2015 TCS New York City Marathon! Along with my five awesome team members, I helped to raise over $21,000 for Social Promise.
It is now an entire year later, and I am running this marathon again. I am running this marathon again? Did I enjoy training for last year's marathon? No. Did I enjoy the actual marathon? Not really. Did I raise a life changing amount of money for people in Gulu, Uganda? Yes. Was it worth it? Absolutely.
I managed to recruit five of the best runners out there--five people who are willing to share their 26.2 miles with Social Promise and the programs we support. I felt relieved that I didn't have to lace up my sneakers and begin training. I then let my mind wander, which it often does. I had six runners last year, shouldn't I have six runners on team Social Promise this year? The situation seemed crystal clear-- if I managed to acquire another spot, I was in. If not? Not meant to be.
It was meant to be. I found a spot and I am officially registered. Makes me wish I would have kept running after the last marathon. I have to, esentially, start from scratch. So, I share with you again what I shared with you last year.
I am not a runner. But guess what? If the people of Gulu can walk several miles each day in search of clean drinking water, if they have to live their lives unsure as to where their next meal is coming from, if they are able to walk as many as 10 miles to receive life saving medical treatment at Lacor Hospital, and if they can survive a raging war at the hands of the Lord's Resistance Army, I can certainly tackle 26.2 in order to help lessen their burden.
PLEASE-Help me help them.
