Sojourn Shelter & Services, Inc. (Sojourn) is a not-for-profit corporation that specializes in services to victims of domestic violence in Sangamon, Christian, Logan, Menard and Montgomery Counties. Headquartered in Springfield since 1975, Sojourn is the only secure, dedicated and certified domestic violence shelter in a five county area of Central Illinois. For 39 years, Sojourn has successfully helped build a community free of violence through service, leadership and education. Sojourn provides the following services: Emergency On-Site Shelter; 24-hour Hotline; Advocacy/Supportive Services (Economic Empowerment, Budgeting, Housing, Medical Advocacy, Employment Advocacy, Parental Services, Life Skills and Conflict Resolution); Legal Advocacy (911 SPD Follow-up and Civil/Criminal Assistance); Pro Bono Attorney Services; Counseling (In-Person, Children’s and Family); Group Counseling; Information & Referrals; and Public Education/Awareness and Trainings (Attorneys, Law Enforcement & Community). During fiscal year 2014, Sojourn served 4,678 victims of domestic violence with 12,783 service hours and 7,332 safe nights of shelter.
