Solar Spring Break 2017
Team Member: Valeriya Epshteyn
EVENT DATE Feb 27, 2017
Our goal is to raise the $5,000 needed for the program fee of GRID Alternative's Solar Spring Break 2017. The $5,000 will go towards the costs of the solar panels that will be installed. Money raised above $5,000 will help to cover travel costs and other student expenses that made the trip possible.
Solar Spring Break has happened annually for the past 3 years. Undergrads at the University of Michigan embark on a service trip to San Diego to learn about and install solar panels on low-income housing. The experience exposes us to equitable energy democracy and production, the solar installation process, relationships staff and contractors of the California non-profit GRID Alternatives. Because we will be working with a Native American community, we will be digging into the stories of indigenous resistance and resilience against environmental racism, learning from the giants on whose shoulders we stand. Our team will be preparing to enter, build, and exit community ethically and in a non-extractive, mutually empowering way.
