Soldier's Heart provides a comprehensive model to address the emotional, moral, and spiritual wounds of military, their families, and society. It offers genuine healing and homecoming from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder by developing a new and honorable warrior identity supported by community. "Soldier's Heart" is a Civil War era name for what we now call PTSD. At Soldier's Heart, we do not consider PTSD a mental illness, but rather a rational response to irrational situations.
The Soldier’s Heart Model is based on Edward Tick's book WAR AND THE SOUL. The book, widely praised for its insight and compassion, explores ancient and cross-cultural warrior traditions that reveal the necessities for successful warrior return. Soldier’s Heart creates meaningful contemporary versions of these traditions, and promotes and guides community, professional, and military efforts to heal the effects of war.
This summer, Ed is completing his sequel to WAR AND THE SOUL. The new book will explore in depth the steps needed to restore soul and society after war, applying lessons learned in practice at Soldier's Heart.
This fundraiser will defray the costs of a Soldier's Heart retreat to be given on the West Coast while Ed is completing his writing. For more information, contact firstname.lastname@example.org
