I am in the process of writing the UN and other agencies to find funding and protection for a handful of asylum seekers held captive in Immigration Detention Centers (IDC), however this is easier said then done because i am not with an established charity . Now, when i was in Thailand i got deported back to the US, due to a mugging. This was a blessing because it allowed me to investigate a flawed Immigration Detention Center from the inside. It's very hard to get help in IDC. You do not get a free phone call like in jail. You have to pay for your call. If you get arrested with no money you might never get to make a call. The problem with IDC, is it keeps refuges who fled for their lives from their native countries hostage forever. When i was there an unknown male hung himself because he had been there for a 11 years. They also refused to take very sick woman to the hospital unless she had money. There were other people who had been there for years and years to. These people are not criminals,. Criminals have more freedom because if they steal they might got to jail for two years. Once they do their time they are free to go. The immigrants on the other hand, might never get to go home because they end up in a system based on money not justice. The people in IDC do not have money and the system is not set up like Thai jail where they can work of their ticket and legal fees. If they don't have family to call, or friends to bail them out, they could sit in IDC till the day they die. They system won't allow them to leave until they pay 50,000 THB or purchase a plane ticket home. Most these people don't have the money, but even id they did going home is not an option for many. I met people who has their own military after them because they were Christians in a Muslim nation. I talked with powerful sisters, who lost everything in bombings, whose families were killed. These people need our help. They were running for their lives and their family is now dead or displaced. Most the people in IDC has no one on the outside to buy their freedom. The system needs to change, but in the meantime these people need freed. Did i mention their are women with children in these places. Every dollar helps, please donate now. There are remarkable people who have been through sickening events. It cost 1,439 USD to give someone their life back. Please do not put a price on life or freedom. If you would like to aid in this cause please donate now.
