BENEFITING: MAINE CANCER FOUNDATION
EVENT DATE: Oct 04, 2013
If you live in and around the Portland area chances are you’ve met or passed by Andrea Caron in or around town. If you got the opportunity to meet her she probably was the first to say “hello.” Then she likely made a witty , sharp comment that may have made you a little uncomfortable at first, but then upon seeing her contagious smile made you chuckle.
This is our Andrea. She has such a passion for people and life. She is a devoted, supportive friend, who always turns out to be more like family.
She always spread her sass and positive, fun attitude to her co-workers, children and families at the Children’s Center, where she worked for many years after finishing her degree in Early Childhood Education at SMCC. She is a fantastic, patient, creative, fun, caring, thoughtful teacher (and friend).
In 2008 she left The Children’s Center to pursue a lifelong dream of taking a road trip across America with her fiancée, Ben. They spent the year tenting in State parks all over this beautiful country hiking and rock climbing. They landed back in the state they love, Maine.
She rejoined The Children’s Center community as a substitute when she wasn’t helping Ben build, side, and/or paint houses. Last year she was called on to take over as a long-term sub for her former co-teacher who was taking time off to fight breast cancer. She did so without hesitation and provided her usual unrelenting, selfless love and support in the process.
She was diagnosed with breast cancer on July 15th. This has been a complete shock to us all. This wonderful woman, who loves the outdoors, eating healthy, rock climbing, being around people; this woman who is so deeply loved by so many is faced with battling this surprising and invasive disease, without any insurance coverage no less. Thanks to state politics and budget cuts she was most recently also denied Mainecare coverage.
We will do anything to get her the treatment she needs and keep her daily and future living as calm and easy as possible. Anything you can do to help us provide this amazing woman with support to live her life and beat cancer would be so greatly appreciated.
