The mission of the Somerville Homeless Coalition is to provide homeless and near homeless individuals and families with individualsized supportive services and tailored housing solutions wtih a goal of obtaining and maintaining affordable housing.
Founded in 1985 by local community leaders, congregations, and concerned neighbors, the Somerville Homeless Coalition opened its first shelter, for adults, in 1986. In 1987 we opened a second shelter, for families. Both are always at capacity. Since then we have expanded our services to include case management, supportive housing, and homeless prevention programs, as well as a food pantry and meals program, Project SOUP.
While the majority of our funding (70-80%) comes from government sources, it is the support from private individuals, businesses and foundations, that makes it possible for us to expand our services and respond quickly and flexibly to changing and emerging needs.
We couldn't do this work without your support. Thank you!
