I'm running to help end modern day slavery of human-trafficking. We must believe that this reality is possible in our lifetime.
"I continue to give my life to help those in pain and respectivefully call upon all those who have love to give, to give wholeheartedly for those less fortunate." -Somaly Mam
Born to a tribal minority family in the Mondulkiri province of Cambodia, Somaly Mam began life in extreme poverty. With limited options as a severely marginalized ethnic group, and living in unimaginable despair, her family often resorted to desperate means to survive. This confluence of dire circumstances led to Somaly being sold into sexual slavery at a very young age. Somaly was forced to work in a brothel along with other women and children for many years, and was brutally tortured and raped. One night, she was made to watch as her best friend was viciously murdered. Deciding then that she would no longer “keep her silence,” Somaly heroically escaped her captors and began to build a new life abroad. To learn more visit www.somaly.org
Her life could have easily been mine as well. I am thankful that it wasn't. My parents endured extreme hardship to protect me when we were homeless and hungry in the streets of Thailand...I honor them (and many others) by living a life of compassion towards those less fortunate. -Somsri Jung
Thanks Sokhorn for sharing her story with me. I've been inspired to take action. I pray that others will too. Please donate now.
