BENEFITING: SKOLL COMMUNITY FUND
Sonidos de la Tierra uses music as a tool for social and community transformation. It was founded in Paraguay in the year 2002 by Luis Szarán, under the idea that “the kid who plays Mozart during the day doesn’t break shop windows at night.” During the last eleven years the program has allowed direct access to music education to more than 14,000 children and youth from scarce resources in 172 communities in Paraguay.
The program has the objectives of fostering social entrepreneurship, cultivating good citizen practices, combating youth violence, and eradicating poverty. The results surpassed all expectations as entire communities in rural Paraguay started developing socially, culturally and economically under the excuse of creating music.
