About My Fundraiser
The Sonrisa Sana Geriatric Dentistry Project of the Harvard School of Dental Medicine will take place at the Universidad Autónoma Juan Misael Saracho Dental School in Tarija, Bolivia. The project has three parts:
An assessment of oral health among the geriatric population of the region, as well as an assessment of training programs for the diagnosis and treatment of geriatric patients.
A series of lectures through the “National Geriatric Conference” to the Tarija dental school faculty and students. We plan to increase awareness of oral health in older adults and to help prepare the future dentists of Tarija to meet the challenges in the growing aging population.
Provision of free dental services for the geriatric population living in the underserved rural communities of Tarija. These procedures will include:
- Patient education and screening for diabetes, hypertension, and oral health in elderly individuals
- Preventive care - cleanings, fluoride application, intraoral and extraoral screenings
- Prosthodontic rehabilitation - complete dentures
Contributions to the project go through the Harvard School of Dental Medicine and are tax-deductible
