Sophia Goes to Peru for Medicine
Organized by: Sophia Tam
EVENT DATE May 17, 2014
In August 2014, I will be attending a medical mission in Cusco, Peru with Hands Across the Americas (HATA). We will be providing free medical attention to the underserved indigenous people of remote areas outside of Cusco who are living in extreme poverty. What is particularly exciting is that as a soon-to-be physician, I will have the opportunity to see and treat patients in an international setting under the supervision of a licensed physician. It is my hope that the privilege of serving a unique population in need of primary medical care will contribute to my growth as a clinician and that I can carry these experiences into my future practice of medicine.
For more info about HATA, please visit our website: http://handsacrosstheamericas.org/index.html
I will be running the Brooklyn Half Marathon this May 2014 in order to fundraise for the mission to Peru. This money will go directly to fund my airfare and living accommodations as well as a $200 donation towards the cost of supplies for the mission. HATA is a 501 C3 non-profit organization.
Thank you for reading and I hope that you choose to support this cause and my growth as a future physician.
