THE STORY:

My wife, Carla, and I wanted to ask as many people as possible for a little help with something we are setting up in the memory of our beautiful daughter, Sophia.

From the time we wake up to the time we fall asleep, we experience the terrible pain of the loss of Sophia. We have been struggling lately, trying to figure out how we should dedicate our time and energy to best remember her. We are starting to arrive at the point where we want to remember Sophia by giving back, by making a difference in something that is most important to us: the lives of children.

Since neither of us are in careers that allow us to directly impact the lives of children, we have been trying to figure out what to do. We could always donate money to a charity or organization, but this would not have the special, personal appeal for what we are trying to accomplish.

Back in October of 2014, we set up a memorial scholarship in memory of Sophia at Dolgeville Central School. The scholarship established would be awarded to a senior who has shown a love of children and who would be going into a career that would protect, care for, or teach children. We meant for the scholarship to be a special bond between us, Sophia, and the senior receiving the scholarship. However, we also came to the realization that if we really wanted to make as much of a difference as possible, we could devote our time and energy by providing as many scholarships as possible to as many students as possible in as many schools as possible.

We believe that to make the most difference, we need to award scholarships to not only Dolgeville Central School seniors, but seniors in other schools as well. We want to assist our future police officers who will protect our children, our future teachers who will inspire our children, and our future counselors who will guide our children onto good paths. We believe that our children are the best possible hope for the future, so if we can give them some financial assistance and guidance, maybe, just maybe, the scholarships will help students make positive changes in our world.

My wife and I have set up this  page on CROWDRISE. We have opened this page up in the hopes of collecting as much as we can.  We will distribute whatever we collect to as many schools as possible. Our hope is to award at least (2) $1,000 scholarships to two (2) different school districts in the Mohawk Valley.

We are asking you to give whatever help you see fit, whether it is a monetary donation, a prayer, advice, or tips.

With your assistance, we hope to accomplish what we all desire: to help our children succeed.

This scholarship project means more than you can imagine to me and to Carla. We sincerely hope you will choose to be a part of it in some way.

Thank you so much for your time, your thoughts, your prayers, and your donations. We hope to give you updates on future recipients of Sophia’s scholarships.
