Shining Hope For Communities

THE STORY:

I have been given the exciting opportunity to volunteer this summer with a wonderful non-profit organization in Kenya called Shining Hope for Communities (SHOFCO). SHOFCO has developed an innovative, community-driven model to combat inter-generational cycles of poverty and gender inequality in Nairobi’s Kibera slum, the largest slum in Africa.

Before you consider a donation I just want to shed light on the importance of this organization and why I have chosen to donate my time to them. Nearly half a million young women in Kibera are denied education and made to suffer daily indignities. In Kibera 66% of girls trade sex for food and only 8% of women in Kibera ever attend school. In August of 2009, so many of these children’s lives were changed when the Kibera School opened.

If you share my passion for this organization and see value in helping these young girls then please donate (these donations are 100% tax deductible). Your money will go directly to Shining Hope and help fund students' tuitions.
