Almost 35 years ago my parents, Pin and Sokheam left their homeland because of the devastation of war. They survived the Killing Fields genocide, trekked through the jungle, and made it to a refugee camp. They saw hope in the opportunity to immigrate to the U.S. with no more than the clothes on their bodies, some travel documents and a small satchel. My mother carried me in her arms as she boarded the plane, frightened, yet determined to provide a future for our family. My dad spoke a few words of English, but that did not prevent him from being resourceful to provide for our family. My parents found assistance from non-profit organizations, such as the Cambodian Family. I believe that those selfless individuals were instrumental in helping us prosper. This is why I care so much about ensuring that each person has a fair chance at success. My work with Kga Long Beach is my way of paying it forward. I am grateful for your support of my fundraising goal. Will you help me?
