I hate running, but I am running the Los Angeles Marathon this year. Why? Because I can. 5 years ago, I decided I wanted to run the New York City Marathon in memory of my Grandmother who had passed from Alzheimer's. Having watched my grandmother over the course of 7 years forget everything she ever knew, it hit me really hard. To qualify for the race, It was a two year commitment and another year of mentally and physically preparing for it. I wanted to run in memory of her, but quickly realized that everything we do in life is so special and worth remembering. Alzheimer's is a horrible disease that affects millions of people who forget everything they ever knew
The New York Marathon still to this day remains one of my biggest accomplishments both physically and mentally. It was by no means easy. I finished with a torn muscle, salt sticking to my skin and completely depleted but feeling like I had just accomplished the impossible. I want to run the Los Angeles Marathon for 2 reasons. 1) I haven't done anything since the NYC marathon that has challenged me in the same way and 2)Because I think that my fitness ability is a gift and if I can use it to give back to a cause - especially one to help all of us to remember the crazy, incredible lives we live - I believe that it will allow for more people to have opportunities of the same.
