S.O.U.L. Foundation (Supporting Opportunities for Ugandans to Learn) fosters sustainable and vibrant Ugandan communities through unique partnerships focused on education, women’s empowerment, food security and health.

Working side by side with community stakeholders, we utilize each other’s talents, experiences, and resources to fuel social innovation, self-sufficiency and entrepreneurship rather than dependency and aid.

Started in 2009, we now work in 14 villages across two rural districts impacting over 9,000 Ugandans!

S.O.U.L.’s model is a “hand up,” not a “hand-out.” This means the cost and the effort behind every S.O.U.L. initiative is shared by the villagers, making them true stakeholders in the success of each and every project.

S.O.U.L. works in education, creating a shared approach to learning and increasing school enrollment and achievement. What started as 40 S.O.U.L. students has turned into 400+ students sponsored from primary through university level. We also have preschool, mentorship, and technology programs.

We also focus on women's empowerment, collaboratively designing business co-ops to increase women’s income, education and skill base. In five years, S.O.U.L.'s business co-operatives have grown from 20 women to 700+ women and now include 14 cooperatives! Female earnings have since tripled from $1 to $3 a day.

In addition, we help improve food security, providing complete support for agribusiness ventures moving product including chicken, goats and tilapia to market and moving rural populations from subsistence farming to self-sustainability. Each year, the fish ponds produce over 50,000 tilapia ensuring food security for the area and surrounding countries like Rwanda.

Finally, we work in health, increasing education of and access to quality healthcare with a focus on maternal and child health. Our Maternal Health Network seeks to educate 400+ women and our partnership with the local midwife is improving the conditions in which women in rural Jinja give birth. S.O.U.L. also provides routine community health trainings on a variety of topics to thousands of community members.

Built upon a foundation of trust and collaborative solutions, S.O.U.L. Foundation forges partnerships, seeks local knowledge, and develops innovative ideas through program evaluation and feedback. Community members contribute 50%, becoming invested in their future and emerging as leaders and teachers for their fellow Ugandans.
