BENEFITING: Seattle Mental Health Institute, Inc.
Most of us have moved to Seattle from all over the globe and enjoy a life of complete abundance in one of the most beautiful and safe places on the planet. Not everyone that lives here gets to enjoy the life that we do however.
Currently Seattle has around 4500 homeless people, and over a quarter of these suffer from mental illness and/or substance abuse. The insanely low tax rates we are charged to live and work here ultimately shifts the responsibility of taking care of our neighbors away from the state and onto ourselves.
I’ve done a small bit of investigating, and for my birthday I would like us all to donate to Sound Mental Health. They provide supported housing & employment as well as counseling for people from all walks of life. Early treatment has a huge success rate, and can save many people from falling into the trap of homelessness.
Unlike solving world hunger or finding a cure for cancer, lifting 4500 people out of homelessness in one of the richest cities on the planet is a tiny problem to solve.
I’m going to jump start this campaign with $500. Furthermore, for every $1 donated up to the first $500, I’ll match $1, and CD will match $1. To sweeten the deal even further, Google will match my $1 and Microsoft will match her $1. This means for every $1 you donate, Sound Mental Health will end up getting $5.
Let’s all give a little back to this city that has given us all so much already :)
