BENEFITING: BRIGHT PINK
ORGANIZER: BRIGHT PINK
EVENT DATE: Jun 06, 2016
My father used to tell me "we'll cross that bridge when we get there." Ever heard that old adage? Well, in the small town where I grew up, this is much more than a cliche- it's priniciple. But with a wealth of information available to us, especially as it pertains to our health, why wait?!
What bridges could I cross? How can I be prepared? I knew of my grandmother's struggle with breast cancer, but what does that mean for me? What does that mean for my future family?
Enter Bright Pink. In 2013 I joined a fabulous group of ladies who's calling is to empower young women to take ownership of their health. Bright Pink's mission is to arm every woman who has not developed breast or ovarian cancer with the information they need to manage their individual risk of breast and ovarian cancers proactively. It could be as simple as cutting extra fat out of your diet, or understanding your own family's health histroy could indicate that you should start mammogram screening early, but it all starts with education! As an Education Ambassador, I have had the privledge of sharing this information with hundreds of women across the state of Virginia through the Bright Pink Brighten Up workshop, but I want to do more.
Bright Pink has activated its ambassadors in its first ever Ambassador Initiative- the 70/70/70 Challenge! From June 6 – July 31, our shared goal is to:
- Reach as many women possible through education, working towards our goal of 70,000 women educated in 2016
- Bring support to 70 new High Risk women through outreach
- Raise $70,000 to help Bright Pink grow in 2017 to help more communities and more women
Bright Pink strives to teach women early detection and risk reduction strategies- the more funds we can raise together, the more women we can educate. More educated women means more lives saved!
Please consider donating and help me reach my goal of $500 for Bright Pink, and feel free to leave a comment if you would like me to bring a Bright Pink Brighten Up workshop to your office or organization! Our journies may lead us to many different bridges, but when it comes to breast and ovarian cancer, we can be prepared.
