Insane ideas need insane amounts of people to believe in them...  See more

BENEFITING: Friends of the Earth

John Parker

THE STORY:

WHO AM I: First female student of Oxford University to go to the South Pole. I study Environmental Policy and in the end, I want to work to secure food around the world. My passion and my vocation is to bring more justice through food.

WHAT? An insane idea! Going to the bottom of the earth, at - 40 degrees with nothing in sight but more snow, nothing could be more appealing. Please help crazy people like me achieve their crazy dreams.

WHY: No "real" reason.  I'm attracted to the risk, the danger and the difficulty of fundraising for this project and actually going to the South Pole. I will use the opportunity to write articles for academic journals on the pole, climate change, the commercialisation of the poles and narratives of exploration in history. I'm also hoping to launch the project as an awareness scheme of melting glaciers, climate change and food insecurity. I'm raising funds in partnership with various groups and hoping to get sponsored very soon... Fingers crossed! I need my blog to fire away!

WHAT YOU CAN DO: Sponsor me! $10 or more. Help me reach my goal and fund my project. Tell your friends and spread the world for an incredible and illogical trip!

NOW: In celebration of 100 years since its discovery by Scott and Amundsen, I will ski to the South Pole. We NEED more crazy people around the world to drop their routine and embrace the insanity of their dreams.

YOU: Sponsor me!

Better late than never... When do I get to see you, Ms. Tiggy? I think you'll love Antarctica; I went there several years back, to lead a group of 25 homos, loved it (except for the 25 homos part). What inspires you to go there, I wonder? x andrew 4 years ago
