THE STORY:

We are located in the heart of coal mining areas, The Government has caused many to loose their jobs here in the Southwest Virginia / Virginia areas due to government policies and restrictions causing local mines to be closed. Many of the persons whom live in this area are finding it hard to make a living, considering coal mining is not just a job but a way of life. Many of the families here are having to retrain / educate themselves just to be able to work a new job. Many of the families are having to stand in food lines at the union mission with their whole family just to get food for the night.
The Southwest Mountain relief fund was developed to help families and others who are without shelter, giving families and their children a safe place to learn and grow allowing the means to retrain / educate the adults to open new opportunities for job placement. We already own our building, so the funds will go towards the people in need of the help. Very little will be going towards building up keep. This program will also help children find a safe place to grow and develop as their parents focus on what they need to do to make the changes they need to support their families. Some of the funds will go into new housing units where the children will be safely kept, like a day care. This is not a reinvention of the wheel, but an effort to use any and all community support systems to place children in school and help the parents and others to develop the skills or knowledge they need to get the type of job they need to support their families.
