We put offers on two houses in foreclosure. Both offers were beat out by others. Changing strategy and timing, not looking at foreclosures. See More

THE STORY:

The Hope of Sober Living

In 2006 a man came out of prison to return to his wife. He had been incarcerated for crack and opiates. Within two weeks he allowed a friend to stay with him who needed a place. Two weeks after that he died of an overdose from bad heroine. This could have been avoided if he had a safe place, a place where sobriety was a sacred trust that was guarded, a place where he might have been coached. I was a younger man then and his pastor. I buried him.

Every Day men and women come out of short-term rehabilitation programs looking for hope, a new start, and a life worth living. Sadly many of them have no support structure, no counselor, no job and no safe housing. What do I mean by safe housing? I mean a place to live where their sobriety is not threatened by the destructive behavior of other people they may end up living with.

Sober Living is an important step in recovery. It is the transition from a life of hopeless addiction to rebuilding dignity and a new life. The Center for the Cure of Souls was birthed in 2007 to provide pastoral care and counseling and spiritual direction to people struggling with life-controlling behaviors. In 2008 we sought to launch Pascha House, a place for recovery. Economic forces kept us from fulfilling that dream at that time. Now it is time to begin again. We ask you to partner with us in establishing Sober Housing in Ansonia, CT and the surrounding Naugatuck Valley.

Each house will uphold the dignity of every person with no overcrowding. We will offer recovery coaching and spiritual direction for each person who asks. Each resident will be required to attend 12-step programs and be employed. We will partner with local recovery programs and churches to provide other support services.

We need to raise enough money to purchase our first house outright and we have an opportunity to do just that with a house available now that can provide beds for at least 8 men.  Please consider giving generously as we seek to empower dignity for men and women in recovery.

Check back soon as we get ready to announce our radical fund raising event!

Yours,

Rev. Matthew Mirabile
