Because babies born with cleft palate have an opening between their mouth and nose, they cannot create the suction necessary to feed. As a result, they need special bottles and nipples, and their caregivers need information and education about how to use these devices.
In 2008, the Cleft Palate Foundation produced a feeding video for caregivers of babies affected by cleft. To date, this video has been viewed more than 100,000 times online and has been sent to over 10,000 families across the world!
Check out this testimonial from one mom who benefited from our English feeding video:
"My son Deacon was born with a severe cleft lip and palate. With all the information out there, your program saved his life by teaching us how to feed our son…he almost starved to death. Thank you so much!"
During the summer of 2013 we translated the video into Spanish, and this version is now available online. (You can check it out here!)
However, hard copy videos are expensive to produce. Our hope is to raise $5,000 which will allow us to produce 5,000 copies of the Spanish video and ship them to families with babies at risk for Failure to Thrive (FTT) - families both inside and outside of the US. Providing this resource will save the lives of babies around the world whose parents otherwise might not be properly educated on how to feed them.
For only $1 per CD, you can help families in the US as well as those all over the world, learn how to feed their special babies and help them grow and thrive!
