BENEFITING: FAMILY PROMISE OF EAST SAN FERNANDO VALLEY

EVENT DATE: Dec 06, 2014

Opie Macleod

THE STORY:

The Challenge:
Can a Jedi survive a real-life Dagobah? We aim to find out while raising money to help feed and shelter homeless families as they get back on their feet. Running in full gear Jedi Opie Macleod (Jedi Knight from the American Jedi documentary and Author of the Jedi Religion book) seeks to tackle the challenge of a Spartan Race (A 3k mud obstacle course) and helping a one of the best causes out there - getting homeless children off the streets.

The Organization:
Family Promise of the Verdugos is an organization which helps homeless families get back on their feet. Job, housing, making sure that parents and their children find their ways back into normal life. Family Promise provides shelter, food, support, and office supplies (for resumes and job searching) while helping families find success.

I have volunteered for this group before. There is nothing more valuable than helping kids get into their own bedroom. Getting parents back to being self-reliant. We all struggle at times and need a hand to get back up. This is about helping people get their feet back underneath them again.

School is tough enough. Children should be enjoying childhood. Lets help get them back to that. Family Promise is about getting back to a life of normalcy and enjoying all the comforts we all too often take for granted.

The Donation:
Please remember that all donations go directly to the Family Promise organization. All fees and expenses for the Race have already been paid for by the Jedi Academy Online. There is a 10% fee that crowdrise charges. Our apologies. But do keep in mind that this donation is like any other. For all you tax wizards. ;)

You can donate as little as 10 dollars. Every little bit helps this wonderful organization. Of course why not make it a bit fun as well? So we have set the challenge. Mud, Obstacles, it is 3.5 miles of real-life Dagobah (Yoda's planet in The Empire Strikes Back). We get this great charity some love and we send one of the Jedi Knights from the Jedi Documentary - American Jedi - out to survive the Spartan Race fully dressed as a Jedi. Have you ever seen those Mud and Obstacle Runs?  All those robes and boots, seems like they will be insanely heavy. But this Organization is worth a day of Heavy-Duty Jedi Training.

The Reward/Challenge Levels:
We will be offering level rewards. If we reach our goal Jedi Knight Opie will run a Spartan Race (mud/obstacle 3 mile run) in Jedi Robes. There will be pictures and even video. This will be difficult and injury is a real possibility. It really present a challenge. But it will help get the message out there about a great organizationand I am sure provide a few laughs to go along with helping this wonderful cause.

Level Rewards:
$10.00 - Jedi Academy Online T-Shirt.
$50.00 - Jedi Academy Online T-shirt, Jedi Pants, and Jedi Boots.
$100.00 - Jedi Robe T-Shirt, Jedi Pants, Jedi Boots, and Jedi Gloves.
$1,000.00 - Simplistic Jedi Outfit. With Before and After Pictures. No Lightsaber hilt.
$2,000.00 - Full Jedi Outfit with Robe. With Before and After, as well as some Action Pictures. No Lightsaber hilt.
$5,000.00 - Full Jedi Gear, with Lightsaber Hilt. And I will drag someone out to the race to film this craziness.
Over 5k - No idea. We'll think of something.

((Note: This is our first attempt with crowdrise. If we see some success expect future challenges. And feel free to suggest new challenges for our fundraising efforts.))

Trolling the Jedi:
Kevin Trout a.k.a Opie Macleod runs the Jedi Academy Online website, is the author of the Jedi Religion book, and currently one of the main Jedi Knights in the American Jedi documentary. He has been living the Jedi Way for nearly twenty years. He is a bit of a shut-in who likes to write about the Jedi Lifestyle. And he thinks he is an awesome Jedi Knight. So lets work to help get him dirty and truly test how much of a Jedi he is. Get him running in that Dagobah mud.

Thank You:
Thanks to all who donate. Truly. I cannot express what it means to people to have a warm and safe place to sleep, not have to wrry about food, while they get back on their feet. It is life-chaning. No words can truly say the difference you are making. It can be baffling that a simple 10 dollars can improve a life forever. Yet you extended your hand and now families will be able return to a normal life. With all our hearts - Thank You. You are Amazing.
