BENEFITING: THE ORPHANETWORK
EVENT DATE: Aug 06, 2016
I am running the Spartan Super (8-10 miles and 24-29 obstacles) in Asheville, NC on 06 August, and through this event I am looking to raise $4000 in support of the Orphan Network (ON). If you have ever read Gates of Fire by Steven Pressfield, you would know the importance they put on the development of their youth - how else would you develop the greatest warriors and scholars of that time. The ON is about building a solid foundation that will lead to strategic impacts for people and a society as a whole. Their initial focus is on countering malnutrition, and follow on support to education, and enabling young adults to be active members in society. I should mention that a recent and in depth analysis found aid towards malnutrition as the best value for your dollar – for every $1 spent returns a $59 value. Again, a strategic return on your investment.
As an active duty service member I greatly appreciate all the support our society gives to us and honoring our service. In turn I can’t help to think of those who are less fortunate, who thru aid will benefit more greatly than we could – enhancing their foundation – giving a fighting chance – your small impact will last a child’s lifetime.
