My children attend Joseph Sims Elementary school in sunny Elk Grove California and one of their favorite things about the school is its stellar Visual And Performing Arts (VAPA) Program where the kids are exposed to music, dance, and other visual arts. The program is funded by the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) and is always riding the razor's edge of being cut due to lack of funds.
As I ran my last Spartan Race in the hills surrounding Monterey Bay dodging rattlesnakes and battling extreme fatigue, I found myself thinking, "there's gotta be a way to do some good through all this suffering." Lo and behold, when I got home from the race I found Crowdrise! A fantastic marriage of my penchant for pain and my passion for arts education.
In an effort to keep this vital program alive, I'm turning to Crowdrise to channel my inner Spartan to greater effect. Crowdrise offers a way for individuals to fundraise around events like marathons and obstacle course races and apply it to causes of their own choosing. It's like the mother ship calling me home.
The Spartan Beast I'll be participating in on Oct 26th is 13-ish miles of mud, obstacles and mayhem. It is one of the toughest physical challenges around, but also one of the most rewarding to finish. I am asking you to support me as I race for the VAPA program my kids love. I'm footing the bill for the race itself, so all your donations will go directly to the program through the PTO at Joseph Sims and are fully tax deductible. Crowdrise charges 3% for every donation, so if you donate $100, $97 of that will go to the cause. Not too shabby, I think. Please join me in keeping the kids singing, dancing and creating together. Thank you so much for your time and attention. ARROOOO!!!
