EVENT DATE: Jun 08, 2015
The students at Bob Rumball Centre for the Deaf, in Toronto, Canada could have a memorable year end field trip to the Thousand Islands, ON, Canada, on June 8th, with your support. Bob Rumball Centre (http://www2.bobrumball.org/content/3/Centre) is a registered charity in Canada. Here is a real life example of the effects of austerity on the vulnerable in our society. For years, government funding provided for the education program including field trips. The past few years, the funding cuts have resulted in the loss of field trips. Whether you believe that field trips are enrichment, reward or both; these students deserve the opportunity to travel to beautiful but otherwise unreachable places. The students have worked hard this year learning basic and advanced sign language. The students have attempted to raise the money for the field trip through fundraisers such as car washes. But those endeavors have not been enough. That is why I come to you here, today. If the money is not raised in the next 48 hours the trip will not be possible! In the silent world these students inhabit; they are challenged daily, physically and emotionally. Unlike students in the suburbs where parents are able to fund these field trips; these students are from financially challenged families. Paying for such a field trip is beyond their means. Thousand Islands is a 280 km (175 mi.) journey from Toronto. Thousand Islands offers these city-bound students a "corridor for nature lovers" combined with the experience of a ferry ride. Prove to these wonderful students; that are speechless; that the 'Money Talks sign" was received by you. Their joy and memories will leave you speechless!
