Society for Welfare of The Handicapped Regd, is a pioneer in North India in the field of education of Deaf and Blind children. Society is managing Patiala School for The Deaf, Patiala School for The Blind and Patiala School for The Deafblind. The deaf and blind schools were started in 1967 and we are now 49 years old. 2. The schools are from Pre Nursery to Class XII. Schools are Co-Educational, residential from Early intervention stage to class XII. As of now, We have a total of 280 children, of which 75 are blind boys and girls, 200 are deaf boys and girls and 10 are Deafblind category special students. 202 children are staying in the hostel. 3. All children are provided FREE special education from Pre Nursery to Class XII since the last 49 years, without any Govt. grant. No fees are charged from the children. We also provide vocational training also to deaf and blind students and settle them in life with jobs and various other opportunities. Our association is till they get married and settle down in life. We have the latest teaching aids both for Deaf and Blind children. 4. Society is not in receipt of any grant form Govt. of India and manages its finances purely from its dedicated donors like you. 5. Society has an excellent infrastructure on 2 acres of land in Village Saifdipur, Patiala. It is located just behind Punjabi University Patiala. The academic blocks have a covered area of approx. 72,000 sq feet. 6. This is a registered Society under the Societies Act, along with the following. Registered under PWD Act ( Persons with disabilities act) Authorised under Sec 80G of Income tax Act. Authorised under Sec 12A of Income tax Act. Registered with Govt. of Punjab Registered under FCRA with Govt. of India to receive foreign contributions from abroad directly. Registered under National Trust, Govt, of India for multiple disabilities. 7. Our Society was adjudged as The Best NGO of Punjab in the year 2014. 8. Keeping our vision in view it is proposed, to increase strength of Schools to 300 deaf and 150 blind children, with hostel capacity of 330 children, both boys and girls as under. Separate academic block for blind school Separate hostel for 200 deaf / blind girls Separate hostel for 130 deaf/ blind boys with proper kitchen and dining for at 300 seating capacity. staff quarters for teachers and class IV employees. Guest house Planning for the above projects is in advanced stages and we intend to start Construction phases wise immediately.
