BENEFITING: Special Olympics Massachusetts
ORGANIZER: Special Olympics Massachusetts
EVENT: 2015 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 20, 2015
Once again, I have been blessed with the opportunity to run the 2015 Boston Marathon. This year I have chosen to run for Special Olympics Massachusetts.
The mission of the Special Olympics is “to provide year-round sports training and competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for all children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, prepare for entry into school and community programs, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in the sharing of gifts, skills and friendships with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.” Currently, over 12,000 athletes in Massachusetts alone compete with the Special Olympics.
Sports and competition have played an enormous role in my life. The thrill of going outside for a run or stepping onto the lacrosse field is truly therapeutic. It’s through athletics that I have learned the importance of comradery, teamwork, pride, and self-confidence. Special Olympics enables athletes of all ages with an intellectual disability to experience the same happiness and learn the same life lessons through sports.
I am honored to fundraise for such an incredible organization. I welcome you to join me by helping me reach my fundraising goal of $10,000 for the Special Olympics so they can continue to spread joy – and advance their mission – throughout Massachusetts and beyond.
Thank you for your support!
