ORGANIZER: Special Olympics Southern California
EVENT: Welcome to Long Beach!
EVENT DATE: Oct 13, 2013
I ran my 1st marathon almost 4 years ago on a sunny day on October 12th, 2008 at the Long Beach Marathon. And in a couple of weeks, on October 7th, 2012, I will be running the same race, completing my 9th marathon, yay!
This year, the Long Beach Marathon is allowing its runners to fundraise and I chose to raise money for the "Special Olympics". The mission of Special Olympics Southern California is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
The reason why I chose this charity is because being physically active has become an important part of my life and I admire anyone who is dedicated to taking care of him/herself. For example, every time I do a race and I see runners who don't have function of both of their legs, I get so humbled by them because I just cannot imagine running without my 2 legs. I mean, I can barely run with them but if I were missing one...!?! Those runners are such an inspiration and if they can do it, anyone can! I'm also encouraged by special needs children and adults who play sports because even though they live in a different and challenging world, they still want to be physically active using their own abilities.
If you would like to donate money to "Special Olympics Southern California", please click on the big "DONATE" button. With the money collected (my fundraising goal is $300), you would be helping these athletes AND I would have the opportunity to run my 9th marathon for FREE!:):) Any amount is appreciated, no amount is too small.
Thank you so much for reading this and for your support, it means a lot to me!:):)
