my son has aspergers syndrome. He was placed into the classroom with students ranging from 18 mnth to 4 years old. student all them we're restricted into a wooden chair does it take to not walk around the river in this class friends there were no behavior issues just small children trying to integrated into the school system -- no biting, pitching, hitting, bullying
However their were a whole class of children secured into heavy wooden chairs (the chairs were made for students who needed support so they can sit up straight that's why the chairs are hard. the manufacture stated NOT TO USE THE CHAR FOR restraint or behavior modification. It was difficult to change this practice however in time the chairs removed and all the children were safe.
this practice had to change I became obsessed with reading the individuals with disability education act. I read IDEA completely through 4 times. I tell tell you this: because as a parent I completely lost all perspectiv. I was unable to advocate for my son. I was filled with emotion, fear, and anger. I realized this as a spirit I would be unable to advocate for my son's best interest. Example: doctors cannot operate own family members because there's too much of an emotional tie and they lose their objectivitydoctor operating on his wife which would be unacceptable.
the best person to advocate for your student is an objective, well educatedwith, with a time tested working knowledge of I DEA, and expertise in constructing an IEP with meaningful in measurable goals so the child will progress each year. they need an advocate who is strong diplomatic they need an advocate who is advocating solely 100% for their child.
Herein lies the problem 1. where are the advocates they're few and far between 2. how much does it cost from 50.00 to 250.00+.
there are excellent date and community nonprofit advocacy group for the disabled they are stretched very very very thin
I would like two start a not-for-profit organization
the function of the organization would be

1 a comprehensive program that will provide education to both parents and students. the education would include -what to expect in every facet start to finish in completing your students yearly IEP meeting, it would also include your students rights under federal law, your right under federal law, and what to do if your students rights are not being met this. Each class/ program will be respectfully and discreetly tailored to each individuals educational level.
2. we will assist parents with their concerns and issues prior to "write a game plan"
3 when the parent and studentis requested to attend an IEP meeting, reclassification, or manifestation hearinh where there will be a great deal of stress, or emotional animosity-The Advocate will attend the meeting support the parent and student while working toward a solution that will be a maximum benefit to the student.
