We did it!
June 26, 2016
My big brother John was 15 years old and riding home with my parents late one evening when they were in an auto accident. Our parents did not survive and John has been a quadriplegic (C4 and C5) for 35 years. A common challenge for quadriplegics as they get older are reoccurring sores from sitting in a wheelchair for long hours and being in bed for extended periods of time. Due to reduced circulation these sores heal slowly and can easily re-inflame. The best medicine is to limit pressure on the sores until they fully heal which means staying in bed for days or weeks. There have been too many instances where John has not been able to fully partake in family/holiday gatherings. Going to the movies has always been one of his favorite activities but over the years this has become a sporadic event at best. My dream is for John to have a healthier life and the freedom to explore outbound activities on a regular basis. Please help me to raise money for my brother to purchase a Hill Rom “P300 Wound Surface Mattress”. These mattresses utilize advanced technology to provide the highest level of wound care for patients with complex, advanced wounds that are difficult to heal and expensive to manage. I know firsthand these types of mattresses are extremely effective because my brother was allowed to use one in a hospital once after a surgery to recover and his healing time was not only expedited but his general sleeping comfort was enhanced. Thank you for taking the time to read this and for your consideration.
**Since posting this on 2/14 I have spoken to Hill Rom directly. Based on their recommendation I have updated the product and price.
