The Sphinx Organization is a national non-profit, headquartered in Detroit, MI and founded by Dr. Aaron P. Dworkin. Sphinx works to create positive change in the arts field and in communities across the country through a variety of programs organized into four main principles: Education & Access, Artist Development, Performing Artists and Arts Leadership. Through these programs, Sphinx is constantly working toward fulfilling its mission of transforming lives through the power of diversity in the arts.
Sphinx has multiple programs that benefit Detroit and its surrounding areas. Sphinx Overture is an education program that provides free violins and lessons to underserved students in Detroit and Flint elementary schools. Sphinx Stars: Detroit is a competition for young people of all cultural backgrounds in Metro-Detroit, showcasing the greatest talent the city has to offer. SphinxCon is an annual convening on diversity in the performing arts that is held in Detroit and brings arts leaders and enthusiasts from across the country here to experience the city.
