EVENT DATE Sep 14, 2016

Hello there! My name is Collin Webster, and my best friend’s name is Olive. She’s hurt and I need your help to bring her home.

She’s a brown miniature dachshund with a dapple coat. I got her as a puppy almost 7 years ago as an undergraduate at Michigan State and I truly believed she was the cutest canine in existence for many years. I met my future wife in 2012 while in graduate school at Ole Miss, and I was first introduced to Lily (a black and tan miniature dachshund with a piebald coat) a few days later. At that exact moment, I knew Olive’s and my lives would never be the same. Forever sisters thereafter, Lily and Olive have come to love and depend on one another with a sweet ferocity. Although Lily is the alpha dog and can be greedy at times, the two girls are inseparable partners in crime.

Two days ago, Olive started walking more stiffly and slowing down in general. Last night, she let out a heart wrenching howl then collapsed. She lost all control over her hind legs and bladder. My fiancée, Elizabeth, brought her to see our veterinarian in the morning as instructed, and we learned Olive would need emergency surgery to alleviate pressure/repair damage from a ruptured spinal disc or else risk permanent paralysis.

Olive underwent emergency surgery at 4 p.m. today (Tuesday, September 13, 2016) at Baton Rouge Veterinary Specialists in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Her doctor said the inner part of her disc had almost completely broken through the outer part, and that it was very fortunate we didn’t delay the process.

Before consenting to surgery, Elizabeth and I knew this procedure would cost $4.000. We also knew we didn’t have these funds. Having never been in this situation before, we didn’t realize that there’s not always a finance or lay-away option whenever insurance isn’t available. We were forced to upfront fifty percent of the total cost ($2,000) before any services would be rendered. Frantically, Elizabeth and I both applied for Care Credit to cover the expenses. Together, we qualified for $1,000. She called our veterinarian and pleaded with them to accept our credit and to begin the CT scan and surgery for our beloved dog.

Our sweet Baby Olive is now recovering in their animal hospital. The veterinarian informed us that she will be released whenever she can urinate on her own (usually 1-2 days). However, we are required to secure the full balance before we are allowed to bring her home. I’m creating this fund in order to pay for my dog’s surgical expenses. I’m 28 years old, engaged to an Experimental Psychologist, have tremendous student loan debt, and am currently employed at The Renaissance Hotel in Baton Rouge, Louisiana (come visit us!). I moved here to be near my fiancee’s family, and we have exhausted all of our savings helping them to cope with the aftermath of some recent and devastating flooding.

I’ve desperately created this CrowdRise page in an attempt to raise money to pay for Olive’s spinal surgery. If you are motivated and able to contribute to her cause; Elizabeth, Lily, and I would be forever grateful for your help.
