Please donate for BRCA Research and attend this wonderful event!
As many of you know in 2002, at the age of 26, I lost my Mom to Breast Bancer and Nana to Ovarian Cancer. In 2003 I lost my maternal Uncle to Pancreatic Cancer. It was a rough year to say the least. My mother's oncologist suggested genetic testing, but she would not have it and did not understand it. However, it always stuck in my head.
I was very lucky that my college professors were supportive of me and letting me do my research papers on how much college students knew about breast cancer. Through my research I learned more about the BRCA (Breast Cancer) Gene Mutation and that I needed to get tested regardless if no one else had in my family. And my hunch was right, at the age of 28 I found out I carried the BRCA1 Gene Mutation.
I took action quick and had prophylactic bilateral mastectomy 3 months later. I waited until I was 37, after child bearing, to have a total hysterectomy. As this point in my life I am considered a Previvor.
There is a lot more to my story, but this is it in a nutshell! PLEASE DONATE SOMETHING, ANYTHING. No amount is too small! Thank you!
