Haiti is reeling from the devastating impact of Hurricane Matthew. KONEKTE is committed to education as a long term solution to help vulnerable communities overcome poverty. We are dedicated to helping children stay in school regardless of their ability to pay and have set a goal of $40,000 to help College Mixte Marius Carnold educate over 200 students. A generous KONEKTE sponsor has offered to match all donations before November 20th so we can reach our goal.
Act now and double your impact. A $25 donation will become $50 and will pay for a teacher for a week.
The teachers and their students thank you!
At College Mixte Marius Carnold teachers earn up to $200 a month, $2000 a year.
90% of schools in Haiti are private. For the more than 50% of families living in poverty, education for their children is an expense they cannot afford. As well as tuition they need to pay for uniforms and books. Many children miss days, even weeks at a time due to lack of money for fees, food or both. Many children are not in their age appropriate class, more than half leave before 6th grade and a mere 30% attend high school. Illiteracy rates in Haiti are the highest in Latin America and the Caribbean.
