BENEFITING: Daraja Education Fund
Caroline has one sister who is she is extremely close with. The two have stood by each other through their father’s accident. Upon his accident, Caroline’s father was too weak to work. Caroline’s grandparents said that they would take care of Caroline’s father, but did not wish to take in his wife and children. As a result, Caroline, her sister and her mother moved in with her maternal grandparents.
If she were not at Daraja, Caroline would still be at her grandmother’s house, taking care of her sister, who is disabled, with meager resources or working as a house help for a small weekly amount.
When Caroline grows up, she wants to do many things, one of which is become an accountant. “I want to help others as I was supported,” Caroline said. “I will get the money to help others, which I have wanted to do since I was a child.”
“Education enables one to live in this world,” she explains. Because of that belief, Caroline plans to start a school for the disabled. This is largely inspired by the bond she has with her sister, who cannot afford to attend a school suitable to her special needs.
