According to the NJ Administrative Office of the Courts, nearly 10,000 children in New Jersey live in out-of-home placements, such as group homes, foster homes, and shelters. These children have been removed from their homes due to abuse and neglect. Many of them are trapped in the court and child welfare systems, spending their childhoods moving from one foster home to another.
Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Middlesex County, an organization recently merged with Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of New Jersey, recruits, screens, trains, and supervises community members who advocate in court for the best interests of neglected and abused foster children. The CASA volunteer serves as the child’s voice in court and is committed to moving the child toward a safe and permanent home.
In New Jersey, it currently costs CASA programs $1,800 to provide CASA services to a child for one year. This year, we are asking community members to support the work of our CASA volunteers by sponsoring the children they serve:
1) Sponsor a child for one year for $1,800
2) Sponsor a child for 6 months for $900
3) Sponsor a child for 1 month for $150
4) Sponsor a child for 1 week for $37.50
Any contribution on your behalf will help us reach our goal of serving every child in out-of-home placement who needs us in Middlesex County.
