THE STORY:

On April 16th, 2016 our family lost a loved one. Kevin had a troubled past, that he was straightening out. While he was in Graterford, he participated in this program. Kevin helped to train 3 dogs who were at risk for euthanization. Those 3 dogs now have forever homes because of the training he gave the dogs. Kevin wanted to continue his education on dog training when he was released and continue it outside of prison.

Check out New Leash on Life-they give prisoners training that can be put to use when they are released which gives them a chance to be a positive addition to the community.  When the prisoners work with the dogs, they establish a bond with the dogs and an understanding of each other. They provide a therapy to the prisoners.

NEW LEASH ON LIFE USA wrote -

New Leash on Life USA rescues at-risk dogs from high-kill shelters and transforms them into adoptable pets or skilled assistance dogs with teams of volunteer inmates in local and state prisons. You could help us by sponsoring a dog in our program.

Just want to support the cause? Click DONATE to this fundraiser and select a team member to support. We're all in this together!

During the three-month program, New Leash dogs live with their inmate trainers 24/7 and give each other the love and support they both desperately need. The inmate participants prepare their dogs for the AKC Canine Good Citizens test and teach them basic commands like how to sit, stay, come, heel and more with the help of our certified dog trainers. Many of our dogs have gone on to do amazing things including helping their new owners cope with autism, strokes, PTSD and depression.

By sponsoring a New Leash on Life USA dog you are saving a dog destined to be euthanized, giving inmates a purpose while incarcerated, and helping to make families healthier and happier.

A sponsorship of $1250 for each dog may provide the following:
- spay/neuter
- microchip
- food, treats and bowls
- transportation from shelter to prison
- transportation to adoption events
- adoption support
- obedience training
- medical care including all vaccinations, heartworm, flea and tick treatments
- crate, leash, towels, kennel blankets, sweater, collars, toys, clicker
- toothbrush, toothpaste, combs, shampoo
- additional vet care if required

Receive these great benefits* by sponsoring one of our dogs:
-Weekly update reports
-Mentions on our website, Twitter, Facebook, and at our graduation ceremony
-Photo of the sponsored dog by professional photographer
...and more!

*each team must raise at least $1,250 to receive benefits
