Lucy is is excited to pursue the challenge of running the marathon for a cause as great as SASF! She is also running this race in memory of her mother, Stancie Amon, a 1983 NYC Marathon finisher.
Lucy began volunteering with SASF on the Champions Council because she knows that the children who are encouraged to pursue personal goals at a young age are the same ones who will continue to push themselves to succeed as they get older. There’s an anonymous quote that says, “A marathon will help you discover the strengths you never knew you had.” Lucy thinks that this is also true of the after-school programming SASF provides. These programs allow students to explore skills and interests they wouldn’t have the means to pursue otherwise. Lucy is excited to talk about her own marathon training experience with SASF students so they can share their achievements together and continue setting their sights on higher goals.

Sports & Arts in Schools Foundation (SASF) believes that talent is equally distributed across New York City, but by the lottery of birth, opportunity to discover and develop that talent is not. In the critical after school hours of 3-6pm, SASF provides underserved inner-city youth with a wide variety of programming that aims to support their academic, artistic, physical and personal development.
SASF is building bridges to a brighter future for over 25,000 New York City public school students. On November 6, 2016 TEAM SASF will be running the blocks and boroughs of New York City to raise funds and visibilty for these critical programs.
TEAM SASF runners are taking on the physical challenge of training for a marathon, and in doing so, setting a positive example to SASF students who face many obstacles in their daily lives. Our runners will embody the organization's core values of determination and resilience, thus inspiring our young students to work hard towards their goals.
