BENEFITING: BOULDER WRITING STUDIO
Boulder Writing Studio is Boulder's first literary arts nonprofit. Our mission is to support emerging local voices and connect our community through the literary arts. Since 2010, the studio has promoted and encouraged the art and craft of writing, the bold magic of self expression, and the power of the written word to transform our individual and collective lives.
Our Young Authors Project (YAP) Creative Writing Summer Camp is an exploration of storytelling where children are exposed to the joys of storytelling through a multifaceted, interactive approach. Our goal is to provide a rich creative writing camp experience. After all, stories aren’t just about sitting down and writing, but about conveying experience and meaning.
Kids come away from this experience feeling inspired and excited about writing and the narrative process in all its forms. Children and Youth ages 6-17 learn and develop the critical narrative skills of character, plot and setting, while working in a fun learning environment!
Utilizing the vast opportunities presented by multimedia today we’ll explore storytelling by incorporating visuals and graphic storyboarding, movement and kinesthetic learning, music, poetry, and daily excursions to encourage creativity and find inspiration all around us. Lessons are organized around small, daily projects, culminating in a printed collective and presentation for family and friends.
We believe that all children and youth should have the opportunity to explore storytelling and creative writing. Current goals for our youth program are twofold: one, to offer scholarships to financially challenged and/or disadvantanged children and youth, and two, to expand our summer creative camp into an afterschool program.
Your donation will help fund scholarships opportunities, catalyze the transformation of our program from a seasonal creative excursion to a year-round exploration of artistic voice and expression, and provide critical support to our staff of dedicated instructors, interns and volunteers.
