Create In Situ

The Spring Garden Gateway Project is Create In Situ's exciting interactive light installation at the underpass of 2nd and Spring Garden Streets in Philadelphia. The project was commissioned by the Mural Arts Program of Philadelphia, in conjunction with the Northern Liberties Neighborhood Association. We are currently trying to raise an additional $50,000 for additional lights and maintenance. An additional offline campaign, will begin in February. Working with Mural Arts, we will be selling "Pixels" for $300.00, with recognition given on an interactive website. More Details Coming Soon...

Our team’s vision combines light and interactive technology to engage the spatial perceptions of those who pass through the space. We will use individual Lightwild Pixel LED lights and motion sensors to transform the space into an interactive environment that pulses with light and movement. The pixels will be placed at the top of each of the outside walls, just below the ceiling. The placement will prevent vandalism. The work will be active and visible during day and evening hours.

Locomotion through the underpass will activate precisely placed motion sensors. The position and speed of the pedestrians, cars, and bikes will activate the motion sensors, causing the pixels to react. The pixels will be programmed to activate, change color and brightness based on the information gathered by the sensors. Our goal is to focus the viewer on the experience of the underpass, rather than the technology.

The underpass will be a separate environment, unique to Northern Liberties and Philadelphia – a contemporary interactive gateway of light.Team Members for the Spring Garden Gateway Project:
