BENEFITING: Partnership For Male Youth
June is Men's Health Month. To help defeat the stigma of depression facing young men, VIDA is joining forces with the JED Foundation (JED) and the Partnership for Male Youth (PMY) to sponsor this cycling event. You can help give voice to young men who are suffering from the quiet pain of depression that often ends in suicide.
79% of all US suicides are among males. Suicide is the second leading cause of death in males 15 to 24. Adolescent males commit suicide at four times the rate of adolescent females. Among gay males the suicide rate is significantly higher than among their straight peers. Gay or straight, young males' fear of being labeled weak keeps many of them from seeking help.
Males 16 through 26 are at higher risk than their female contemporaries for ADHD diagnosis, substance abuse disorders, homicide and risky behaviors.
Only a handful of national organizations are committed to addressing these issues. The JED Foundation and the Partnership for Male Youth are two of the leaders in this effort. Help them in their efforts to tackle this issue that is widely unknown.
