Sprint For Saint Francis NICU- Race Day Collage
October 24, 2016
EVENT DATE: Oct 08, 2016
To promote physical and mental well-being through running while setting a good example of health, fitness and philanthropy to others. Our runners participate in the Hartford Marathon, Half Marathon and 5k events to raise funds for the Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center NICU. Our knitters make hats and blankets for the babies in the NICU.
To use running as a tool to accomplish our main objective: to ensure that the Saint Francis NICU can provide the most sophisticated care available to sick and/or premature newborns by combining advanced technology with compassionate care.
Since the event inception in 2014, we have raised over $75,000 and collected over 500 knit hats/blankets for the NICU. SFSF funds have been used to help purchase:
-Cooling System- administered to newborns, treatment with a cooling system can prevent or significantly reduce the severity of neurologic injury. In the past, vulnerable newborns who required a cooling system had to be transferred to other hospitals, sometimes as far away as Boston.
-Bilimeters- a non-invasive device to test for jaundice rather than having to prick the baby's heel for a blood test.
Our runners have collectively raced nearly 900 miles! That distance would bring us to Charleston, SC from our starting line in Hartford, CT.
Join us! You'll cross the finish line for yourself but so many others will benefit.
