The Society for the Prevention of Teen Suicide was founded in 2005 by two Monmouth County, NJ, fathers who each lost a child to suicide. SPTS is dedicated to reducing the number of youth suicides and attempted suicides by encouraging public awareness through the development and promotion of educational training programs.
SPTS provides Best Practices and Evidence-based teen suicide prevention programs to communities across the United States. We offer a FREE online training for educators that has been completed by more than 150,000 individuals across the country since 2008. The SPTS website includes a variety of helpful resources including a 17 minute video for parents Not My Kid: What Every Parent Should Know that has been viewed over 50,000 times. SPTS empowers school districts to become competent caring communities through the implementation of the Lifelines Suicide Prevention curriculum.
In 2015 SPTS began refocusing efforts within Monmouth and Ocean County. The organization began its Youth Council as well as an annual commitment to provide a Youth Wellness Summit for local students and school staff. We are most proud of this work with our youth to increase their own awareness of teen suicide and enhance their protective factors to keep them and their friends safe.
The 2017 SPTS Crowdrise Campaign is designed to allow YOU to support the SPTS program of your choice. If you have any questions about our programs, this challenge, or how to impact your own community please contact the office (732) 410-7900 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
