BENEFITING: CHANGING TIDES FOUNDATION
Sri Lanka, formerly known as Ceylon, located just south east of India and north east of the Maldives, is a small island nation known as “the pearl of the indian Ocean.” It is a country of inspiring beauty, culture, tradition.
After the 26 year civil war and the devastating Boxing Day tsunami in 2004, from which the country gained the most international attention, the country is now stabilized and re-building. The result of the tumultuous history is that this tropical paradise has been largely overlooked by travelers and it has become an off the beaten path destination waiting to be discovered.
However, in a developing country of over 20 million people, Sri Lanka faces many challenges. Many people lack access to clean water, sanitation, and education and the trash problem is a huge concern as tourism is growing and most areas are without proper trash disposal systems in place. As foreigners start to permeate the island and enjoy all of the riches it has to offer, there is much opportunity for travelers to give back to this tiny island community. The Buddhist and Hindu people are incredibly kind and will welcome you with open arms to this remarkable place.
Our Sri Lanka story will be told in three parts! We will start with the amazing work of told through the eyes of our incredible ambassador and #SHERO, Amanda Hough. Then move on to beach cleanups and trash concerns and finish with a clean water project.
All funds raised will benefit the organizations we have worked with and the programs we have developed in Sri Lanka.
