BENEFITING: FREEDOM FROM FISTULA FOUNDATION
Support the Freedom From Fistula Foundation.
Today, an estimated 2 million women in Africa are suffering from obstetric fistula caused by prolonged, obstructed childbirth and lack of access to maternity care. The effect on women is devastating and often condemns them to a life of solitude and despair.
Freedom From Fistula aims to help these women by providing free surgeries to heal their fistulas, free maternity care to prevent fistulas and ensure safe childbirth, and training local healthcare workers.
What is fistula?
Women suffering from obstructed labour often struggle until the baby dies and during this agonizing process, loss of circulation causes tissue to die, leaving large gaps between the birth canal and bladder or rectum, causing incontinence.
Most women suffering with obstetric fistula are ostracized by their families and communities as they smell and are constantly wet, leaving them to live as outcasts. In the West, obstetric fistulas do occur occasionally but there are teams of medical professionals to care for the mother and baby and to repair the fistula straight away.
In contrast, it occurs to thousands of women in Africa every day and they have no-one to help. These women deserve to be more than statistics, they deserve decent healthcare when they bring their children into the world.
Freedom From Fistula is helping mothers, daughters, sisters, cousins, wives, aunts, nieces......
With your help, they can do more. On my trip to Malawi in June, I will be visiting the FFF Malawi fistula hospital in Lilongwe. My goal is to raise $5000 which I can give them to improve their facilities and provide more surgeries to women. Please help with giving whatever amount you can.
