SSG. Michael Ollis was killed in action on August 28, 2013 in Ghazni Province, Afghanistan. He saved the Lives of Polish Soliders, American Soldiers and American civilian contractors including a Polish Lieut. during a ten man insurgent attack.
SSG.Ollis gave his life by fighting with out his formal equipment and only one round of ammunition for two hours.
During this time he lost his left arm from a morter that was lodged over the offices of the FOB. SSG. Ollis continued to fight until all ten insurgents were killed.
However, when SSG. Ollis approached the last insurgent to remove the suicide vest, the insurgent detonated the vest blowing a Polish Lieut. and SSG. Ollis about 100 feet in the air. SSG. was found shielding the Polish Lieut. from harm. SSG. Ollis passed away in route to the FOB hospital.
