BENEFITING: Daraja Education Fund
EVENT DATE: May 10, 2016
Daraja Academy is a boarding secondary school for Kenyan girls with top academic scores and exceptional leadership skills but no means to continue their education. The vast majority of secondary schools in Kenya require substantial fees. Even indirect costs of a secondary education in Kenya are twelve to twenty times as much as the monthly income of parents in rural areas. To that end, Daraja Academy provides full scholarships to girls of material poverty, covering all the costs of school in addition to shelter, food, healthcare and counseling services, allowing students to focus on their academic and personal potential, without being hindered by the everyday barriers of poverty.
The academy believes change occurs in a developing country through the people themselves. Daraja Academy has been established to provide young Kenyan women the tools to create change and become the country’s future leaders.
SI Daraja Club members are raising funds for Martha and Cate, two Daraja Academy students currently in their third year. Every donation helps secure scholarships for these two students so they can finish secondary school and continue on to university.
We will be hosting a bake sale on campus on May 10th! With every purchase, you will contribute to Martha and Cate's education.
Can't join us on the 10th? Please consider a direct donation to this campaign.
